Week Highlights & Lowlights

Alright...well it's been an up and down week since Easter Sunday last week...

Monday - the week started off pretty well. Until about 8:30 p.m. that night. What I thought was a case of heartburn about an hour after eating eventually turned into either a stomach flu bug or else food poisoning (expired Miracle Whip anyone?). I don't plan on ever eating mayo again! I know my husband loves me though - I had to wake him up at about 6:15 a.m. to go get me some Sprite....which was a life-saver...

After that knocked me out for about a day and a half...I got to work for a bit Wednesday afternoon and still managed to make it to the dinner-making party at Sociale that evening that our friend Val W. hosted. It was great and now we have 6 dinners ready to just thaw and throw in the oven or on the skillet. Can't wait to try out some of the meals we made up. It was a great experience...I may have to host a party of my own sometime soon!

Friday Val W. got offered a promotion at work so Missy, Heidi and I went out after work with Val on Friday to help her celebrate that - and to get some free wings at Ground Round! Always fun to celebrate friend's successes! (And I'm always a fan of free food).

Saturday Jay & I went up to our lot and tried to figure out where to put the house to maximize our view of the city. We almost blew away it was SO windy!! Later that night with the help of a couple of Jay's brothers and his dad - I think we settled on a location. Such things you never really think about (OK that I never really thought about) when deciding to build a house. I'm pretty sure Jay was prepared for this kind of stuff!

I went into work for awhile as well on Saturday (missing work just sets me back so much) and I got out jogging for the first time since I went Monday after work. I had worked up to almost 7 miles before getting sick...but now I'm starting back at 3-4. Not sure if running the Fargo Half Marathon in May is going to be possible for me (I've been sick twice in the last 2-3 weeks). We'll see if I can successfully work back up to some higher miles in the next few weeks...

Saturday was also Lexie's 2nd birthday party up at Ran & Julie's which was a lot of fun. Good food, good company...and Lexie was such a goofball opening up presents...I will post pictures from the party on the Gervings blog soon.

Today was church, more work, another (slow) jog and then we went to Ground Round (we're becoming regulars there) to watch the UND/Wisconsin hockey game. What a game! The Sioux were down 2-0 going into the 3rd period. They tied it up and the game went into OT. UND won 3-2 shortly into the OT period - so onto the "Frozen 4" for the 4th straight year for them! That might be one of the best college hockey games I have ever seen!!

Now it's time for a close to the weekend and onto the start of another work week - which I'm sure will be busy. Jay's been putting in lots of OT and I've been working a little extra too. We look forward (mostly I look forward) to the Parade of Homes next weekend - going to houses is entertainment for me (plus I need to get good ideas for our house!!). Tomorrow after work we meet with the builder to go over with him where to stake out where the house will be and to get updated floor plans from him. Then, they may be digging this week or next week already! So, look for pictures of our hole in the ground to come in the following weeks! I'm sure I will be tracking the progress - start to finish!

Jay might try AGAIN to catch some fish this week if the weather gets nice enough. Here's hoping he has better luck (or skill) than so far this year!!

For now...Bailey & Jay went to bed awhile ago and my ever-attached Jerz is snoozing away on the couch as I type...I think she just had a "puppy-mare"...but has recovered and is now just snoring away...It's a nice peaceful end to another whirlwind weekend...I cherish these moments...

One more thing...congrats to Micaela for winning first place in her age group in the STATE for another writing contest! I don't know all the details quite yet but I know she can now enter what she wrote into a national competition. She is such an amazing writer...and I have all the faith in the world that she'll win at the national level! :) (OK that's my bragging for the week).

Hope everyone has a great week!

We're ready for April (and hopefully nice weather) to begin!!

Happy Easter!!

Hello everyone! Hope everyone had a great Easter! We had a great day! We started off with Church and then went to Ran & Julie's for a delicious lunch! We spent the afternoon visiting and playing games with the kids (and the other grown-ups). From what we could hear, Jay, Ran and Nick had some great games of P-I-G with the kids' basketball hoop in their family room! The rest of us played dice & card games with the kids.
After Ran & Julie's it was on to big meal #2 of the day - at my parents' house. We started off by going to Sleepy Hollow Park (it's been our tradition for the past few Easters) for a walk. This year we took the dogs - including Jerz & Bailey and also my brother's family's dog, Kira. The dogs had a blast getting to run around (we even let our beagles off their leashes for a bit). After our walk it was time to eat again! The food was great...we got to visit for a bit after supper.
Here are a few pictures from the day!

This evening we are just unwinding from the weekend. Apparently "Back to the Future" is on and if anyone knows anything about me and Jay - that's one of our alltime favorite movies!
A few other notes...
We went to Stacy & Mitch's last night to visit them and Peyton & the twins, Kambree & Reagan. The babies are doing well as are the rest of them...It was fun to get to visit with them for awhile! They are definitely knee deep in diaper changes!
Also, I'm very disappointed in many of the teams I picked in the NCAA tourney. Not only did my Duke Blue Devils let me down but most of my other picks did too. Oh well, you would think I'd learn my lesson and just not fill out a bracket again - I get suckered into thinking I'll actually win every year though!
Happy early birthday wishes go out to Julie & Lexie this week! We look forward to Lexie's party next weekend! We also hopefully will make it back to Glen Ullin next weekend to visit Grandma Schaff and everyone else there...
Have a great week everyone!!

Fun Times!

Turns out...turning 30 isn't so bad after all! :)
On Saturday evening this past weekend we went to Midway Lanes for my birthday party. It was a blast! We found out a few of us are probably some of the worst bowlers in...well...all the land...but it still was fun. I had Missy on my team so I wasn't really worried! Good times were had by all! I would like to thank everyone for coming out & helping me celebrate! It meant a lot that you all were there!
Here are a few pictures from that night...
The cake (Missy had a lady she knows make it). Delicious & so cute! :)

(There are more pictures...just didn't want to post them all)...
Sunday night we went to my parents' house along with my Grandma Gerhardt and Tom & Candace and the kids. We made some quesadillas which were awesome!
But my birthday celebration wasn't just this past weekend...Nope it started LAST weekend with a weekend getaway to Grand Forks for me & Jay to go to a Sioux hockey game. Why not celebrate for over a week, right? It's a running joke in our family that my mom finds ways to stretch her birthday celebrations on for MONTHS - so we like to joke that I'm learning from her how to prolong my birthday celebration!
Some live action photos from the game (they played Bemidji State)
Playing some "D"
The goalie (he didn't get a lot of action - UND dominated)
The Sioux won 5-1! Our seats were 6 rows up so you could really get into the action & almost "taste" the ice! It was great - I really miss going to those games all the time like I did when I was up there for law school.
OK I'll stop blabbing on and on about MY birthday! WE are doing well and are getting closer & closer each day to being in our first HOUSE (oh yes the countdown is officially ON). We continue to work on details of the floor plan and have started on some ideas for both the interior and exterior of the house. So far, so good & it's pretty fun getting to pick everything out!
Other than that, we continue to keep busy with work but also find time for play (as you can tell from above). Jay's working on rehabbing his knee and gets out ice fishing every once in awhile. I have been jogging (thinking about trying to run in the Fargo half-marathon in May) as well as playing in b-ball and v-ball leagues. Our puppies are doing well too - although they did get into a little "fight" with each other last night over some food (go figure). They worked it out however and are back to their normal merry little beagle-rific selves. I have been taking them with me jogging a few times a week (weather permitting) but yes, they are still chubby! We're working on it!
Tomorrow is Payton & Sydney's 4th Birthday! Can't believe they are already 4 - time really does fly! We also have Sandy's birthday coming up this weekend...and hopefully get to see the whole Gerving clan this weekend.
Have a great rest of the week and a great weekend!
